Thank you Nancy Liu Chin and the Pink Blossom List!

On June 4th I was honored to be included in an article on the Pink Blossom List. The "Reality Check" series is the brilliant idea of Nancy Liu Chin, to demonstrate the prices of fresh flowers in different areas of the country. Check out the article here. pink blossom list screen shot

Then on June 10th I was featured on Pink Blossom List again! Read the article here.

If you haven't been to the Pink Blossom List, it is an excellent resource for planning a stylish and modern wedding. Nancy Liu Chin, one of the many authors, is a prolific blogger and trend-setting event florist in San Francisco, CA. She currently writes for the Pink Blossom List, Wedding Bee Pro, Flights of Fancy on Tuesdays, and for her own blog, Brown Bag. I'm sure this isn't a complete list, but if you can't tell, I totally stalk her work!

Thanks again Nancy!

Michigan Floral Association 2009 Great Lakes Floral Expo

This weekend I attended the Michigan Floral Association's 2009 Great Lakes Floral Expo. I drove out to Grand Rapids on Friday evening to drop off my entries to the professional division design contest. When I returned on Saturday morning I was excited to find that I had placed second in the centerpiece portion of the contest! (Thank you for the image Tracy!)

Janet from Floral Verde LLC with a second place finish in the centerpiece category of the 2009 Michigan Floral Association design contest.

The centerpiece was inspired by a recent trip up north to Rogers City, MI. I was enchanted by the dense groves of birch trees lining the highway. I paired the ephemeral beauty of the birch forest with opulence of the Colony Club in Detroit.

The centerpiece included birch branches, seeded eucalyptus, Black Baccara roses, Peach Vision spray roses, anemone and tulips in a metal bowl.

Each entry was required to include a 24x30 inch storyboard. Here is the text from my storyboard:

The whimsy of Northern Michigan's birch forests meets the chic setting of the Colony Club in Detroit creating a quirky mix of ethereal and luxe textures.

There were two other portions of the design contest. The theme for the bridal bouquet and boutonniere was "Discovering Hidden Gems." This entry was inspired by the art nouveau prints of Alphons Mucha. (Thanks for the image Anne!)

The final portion of the contest was a memorial arrangement. This was inspired by Gian Lorenzo Bernini's sculpture, "Ecstasy of St Theresa."

A sympathy arrangement with calla lilies, roses, aspidistra foliage, African reeds, sponge mushrooms, and reindeer moss.
