Jolie & Chris at The Inn at St. John's, Plymouth MI

Jolie was a very easy going bride who knew exactly what she wanted - peonies for herself and tulips everywhere else! Did she pick the right time of year, or what? The ceremony was held at the Chapel of The Inn at St. John's. I can't wait to see (and hopefully post) the pro-shots by Mattson Pictures. Jolie was absolutely STUNNING on Saturday, and her groom Chris was oh-so handsome!

Jolie's bouquet was made entirely of frothy white peonies, and was finished with a ballet-style satin stem wrap.

The groom's matching boutonniere was made up of a single peony bud paired with variegated lily grass and eucalyptus foliage.

hand-tied bridesmaids bouquets with Ile de France tulips and a black lace accent

The bridesmaid's bouquets were made out of red Ile de France tulips. The ivory satin stem wrap was overlaid with black lace, echoing the detailing of the beautiful stationary that Jolie designed and handmade.

The reception was a short walk down the hall from the chapel, in the Galilee Ballroom. In the tall centerpieces, Ile de France tulips gracefully arc out of 32 inch pilsner vases.

To highlight the color black in the ivory, black, and red color scheme, we used Black Jack tulips for all of the low centerpieces. Notice how the lace pattern on the table numbers and wine favors is picked up in the handmade votive sleeves. I made eleven dozen ivory silk and black lace votive sleeves for this wedding!

We supplemented the bouquets on the head table with more wrapped votive candles and low arrangements of Black Jack tulips.

Congratulations Jolie & Chris!

Sympathy Arrangement for Le Fleur Boutique in Phoenix, AZ

Last Wednesday, in the midst of Jolie and Chris' wedding, I get a call from the wonderful ladies at Le Fleur Boutique in Phoenix, Arizona. They have a client who needs a sympathy arrangement delivered to a funeral home here in Flint. I graciously explain that I only do wedding and event work, and recommend another local florist. We chatted for a few more minutes, and I ended up taking the job! How could I not? Jane was just too sweet!

Here's what I came up with. Bells of Ireland, green leucadendron, Cezanne roses, pink ranunculus and heather make up this sweet tribute. Thanks for calling me Jane! It was lovely working with you!

Silver Tree Composite Bouquet

Great foliage is an underutilized resource in the cut flower world. Maybe I feel this way because my favorite color is green, or because I am a sucker for textural items, but I get just as excited about interesting foliage as I do for an unusual flower. Silver tree (Leucadendron argenteum) is one of those amazing foliages that the general public just isn't familiar with. It is an evergreen native to South Africa. The silver shine on top of the blue/green foliage comes from a dense coating of silky hairs. Each leaf is unbelievably smooth and luxurious. Two weeks ago I called my wholesaler to tell them I was itching for some silver tree. The next Tuesday I had five perfect stems in hand. I could hardly wait to finish my quotes for the day so that I could start arranging the foliage!

That evening I removed the leaves from three stems of silver tree and went to work reconfiguring them into a composite flower. It's amazing what you can make with a few stems of silver tree, a half tube of glue and a couple hours! This hand-crafted bloom is twelve inches across and would make a great bouquet for the bride looking to make a statement!

The underside of the bouquet is finished off with more silver tree foliage, an espresso satin wrap and a few pearl-headed pins - simple and clean.

The top of the bouquet looks like one giant blossom, or maybe a single large echeveria.

Matching boutonniere made from silver tree and uluhe fern curls

The simplicity carries through to the matching boutonniere. Silver tree foliage creates a shimmering backdrop for two perfect uluhe fern curls.

I was having so much fun with the silver tree that I just couldn't stop there. Here are a couple other personal flowers that I whipped together.

Wrist corsage with silver tree foliage and green mini cymbidiums

To create this corsage I mounted a pair of green mini cymbidiums on a base of silver tree foliage. Then I attached the whole assembly to a pearl wristlet. I echoed the pearl wristlet with pearl accents in the throats of the cymbidiums.
