succulents!

This Saturday I took a road trip to Sorensen Greenhouses Inc. in Canada, along with a my good friend and wholesaler, Tom from Mayesh, and his super sweet girlfriend Laura.  The selection of succulents was absolutely mind-blowing.  If you're a florist and you're looking to get your hands on any of these varieties please email Tom.  If you're not a florist try the garden section of Home Depot for succulents from this amazing farm.

Thank you for the tour Brandi!

*I'll post the names of the succulents as I figure them out.

Hillary and Brandon's Wedding in Davison, Michigan

Today I opened my inbox and found some gorgeous images from Hillary and Brandon's August 2009 nuptials. One of my favorite photographers, Emily Meyer-Jenkins from Signature Portrait Studio documented the wedding. Bridal bouquet with delphinium, blue scabiosa, tweedia, pale blue hydrangea, gardenias, Polar Star roses, mini calls, green cymbidium orchids, scented geranium and seeded eucalyptus. Photo by Signature Portrait Studio - Davison, Michigan.

Hillary and bridesmaids were absolutely gorgeous!

Aisle arrangement on shepard's hook doubles as centerpiece. Contains iris, blue scabiosa, pale blue hydrangea, cushion poms, Green Tea roses, scented geranium and seeded eucalyptus.

Hillary was married to Brandon on her mother's gorgeous property in Davison. One fun detail from the ceremony is that the aisle arrangements doubled as centerpieces at the reception!

Thank you Emily for the beautiful photos!

Thank you Hillary for the sweet review on Wedding Mapper, and congratulations to you and Brandon!

Married on the Beach

close up of bridal bouquet with manzanita branches, assorted succulents, berzelia, baby blue eucalyptus, bunny grass, and other assorted grasses Last weekend I put together a beach themed bouquet for the Michigan Floral Association’s 2010 Great Lakes Floral Expo. It was full of succulents and grasses, and even had a manzanita branch running through it.

Here’s a side view of the bouquet. I rescued the large blue succulent in the center from the Home Depot. It hung over the side of its pot from an unsightly, lanky and half dead stem. The sad little pot sat clustered on a cart with half a dozen others, about to be wheeled off the sales floor. But I loved that it had sent up a bloom, so I bought it, cut it short, and pulled off all of the dead leaves. Voilà! It was perfect for my project! I’ll replant all the succulents from the bouquet in a week or two, so I can reuse them later.

Here is one last shot of me holding the bouquet. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine how you’d carry an asymmetric bouquet until you see it being properly held. It’s funny (but not a big surprise) that the bouquet matches my jacket. I guess I just can’t help myself; there are just certain color palettes that I gravitate towards!
